Micronesian Legal Services Corporation (MLSC) is a nonprofit law firm dedicated to providing free legal assistance and ensuring access to justice for vulnerable and low-income communities in Micronesia. We are seeking passionate volunteer lawyers and professionals to join our mission and make a tangible impact by accepting cases, co-counseling with our attorneys, and offering technical and other support.

MLSC serves clients across Micronesia, addressing critical legal needs such as family law, land rights and housing, immigration and emigration, human rights, environmental justice, disaster recovery, and more. Our work is essential to protecting the rights of individuals and communities.Β Β
Volunteer Opportunities
We are looking for lawyers and professionals in both legal and non-legal fields who are willing to contribute their time and expertise. Volunteers can participate remotely or in-person, depending on availability and preferences. Some of the roles available include:
1. Volunteer Lawyers
- Accept Cases: Work directly with MLSC to represent clients in various civil legal matters.
- Co-Counsel: Partner with our staff attorneys to provide strategic counsel and assistance on ongoing cases.
- Legal Consultations: Provide pro bono advice on specific legal questions and case assessments.
- Areas of Need: Family Law, Domestic Violence, Immigration, Housing, Civil Rights, Environmental Law, Employment Law, and more.
- Subject Matter Experts: Offer expertise on niche legal areas such as environmental law, human rights, international law.
3. Non-Legal Professionals
- IT and Technical Support: Assist MLSC with technical infrastructure, including software systems, case management, and cybersecurity.
- Finance and Accounting: Provide assistance in financial management, budgeting, grant compliance, and auditing.
- Communications and Advocacy: Help raise awareness about legal issues in Micronesia and support advocacy campaigns, public relations, and community outreach.

Requirements
- Lawyers: Must be licensed and in good standing with at least one jurisdiction. Experience in civil legal aid or similar pro bono work is highly valued.
- Other Professionals: Must have relevant experience in their field (e.g., IT, finance, communications).
- Commitment: Flexible time commitments ranging from short-term project work to ongoing support. Remote and in-person options are available.
- Passion for Justice: A commitment to MLSCβs mission and a willingness to work with underrepresented communities.
