    Job Description

Who We Are National Math Camps is a recently-launched nonprofit on a bold mission: to bring together extraordinary students and mathematicians for immersive, joyful, and transformational experiences in math and AI. Our programs prepare and inspire talented students to impact the frontiers of math and science, pushing the boundaries of innovation and knowledge. Each camp is grounded in our four core pedagogical values: Community, Joy, Rigor, and Choice. And from the very beginning, NMC has been building toward scale — to grow into a network of camps that reaches thousands of students per year. In summer 2025, we successfully piloted two residential camps in California and North Carolina, serving ~80 mathematically talented middle school students. This launch demonstrated both the transformative impact of our approach and the opportunity to expand it nationwide. We are now entering a pivotal growth stage. Over the next five years, our ambition is to move from serving dozens of students to thousands annually — by adding new sites, reaching additional age ranges, and developing specialized program tracks (e.g., “classical” advanced math, math fundamentals of AI, etc.). This next chapter is about building for scale: creating the systems, financial model, and organizational culture that will enable rapid growth while preserving the excellence and joy that define our camps. For leaders who thrive on building for scale, this is an opportunity to shape a national organization at its moment of inflection. The Opportunity This is a rare chance to build the operational foundation for a highly impactful organization with scale ambitions. As COO, you will be responsible for designing and implementing the systems and processes that enable NMC to scale efficiently. The COO will have significant autonomy over operational decisions and will serve as the CEO's thought partner on organizational strategy. The CEO sets academic vision, program standards, and growth goals; the COO ensures these can be delivered at scale.

About Us null What You'll Do

    You will be responsible for:

Operational Systems & Technology for Scale: Build highly efficient, tech-enabled systems and processes that allow NMC to scale rapidly with a lean team. Design and implement strong central operational systems across HR, finance, marketing, admissions, technology, vendor management, and camp logistics. Integrate technology tools including CRM platforms, admissions systems, applicant tracking systems (ATS), and other operational infrastructure. Codify and organize information to support execution across a remote, distributed, and seasonal team. Be a proactive and creative problem solver who rolls up sleeves and stays scrappy to ensure scalable solutions are implemented quickly and effectively. Camp Operations & Program Logistics: Work closely with the Director of Operations and camp leadership teams to oversee operational execution of concurrent residential camps across multiple geographies. Ensure smooth coordination of site selection, vendor management, venue partnerships, housing, meals, transportation, and health and safety protocols. Build systems for managing seasonal staffing operations, including recruitment, hiring, training, and management of hundreds of seasonal instructors and staff annually. Build systems for managing student marketing, admissions, enrollment, and communications. Risk Management & Compliance: Establish and maintain comprehensive risk management and compliance frameworks for operating residential programs serving minors. Develop and implement health and safety protocols, emergency response procedures, insurance requirements, background check systems, and regulatory compliance processes. Work with legal counsel and insurance providers to ensure all camps meet or exceed industry standards and legal requirements. Financial Operations & P&L Management: Execute the organization's financial model in partnership with the CEO and external accounting professionals. Own P&L management, including HR and payroll/compensation, site contracting negotiations, and camp tuition/expenses. Implement comprehensive budgeting systems, financial tracking, and resource allocation processes that support organizational growth and efficiency. Execute camp-level tuition and budgeting decisions within the financial strategy set by the CEO. Apply strong business acumen to day-to-day financial operations, unit economics analysis, cost management, and long-term operational planning. Parent Experience and Marketing: Own parent relationships and parent satisfaction throughout the camp lifecycle. Set marketing strategy and own enrollment outcomes including conversion and renewals. Build a vibrant parent community and drive engagement among families. Manage the Community and Enrollment Manager and external contractors who execute day-to-day marketing activities. Execute marketing aligned with NMC’s identity and brand developed by the CEO. Build and manage operational systems for student communications, admissions processing, and enrollment operations while the CEO sets admissions philosophy and standards. Team and Culture Leadership: Recruit, lead, and develop a small, high-performing remote team with strong start-up culture and deep commitment to the mission. Create an environment where innovation and excellence thrive through clear expectations, difficult conversations when needed, and strong relationships. Foster a culture of accountability and support in a fast-paced startup environment.
