WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR We’re seeking a Head of Underwritng - Bermuda to help drive our mission of creating solutions for complex risks in innovative markets. This role will lead our Financial Lines underwriting team and oversee risks across D&O, E&O, Cyber, Crime, and EPL. Your strategic insight, underwriting expertise, and leadership will guide profitable growth and deliver exceptional client outcomes. WHAT YOU WILL DO Direct Relm’s Bermuda underwriting strategy, process, planning, reporting, forecasting, business development, and innovation across the insurance portfolio. Drive portfolio growth and profitability in alignment with Relm’s risk appetite and business plan to ensure annual and strategic goals are achieved. Provide strong leadership, mentorship, and management to the Bermuda underwriting team, fostering a high-performance culture and supporting the professional development of junior underwriting and administrative staff. Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, reinsurers, and industry stakeholders to strengthen Relm’s market presence and generate new business opportunities. Represent Relm at key industry events and conferences, both locally and internationally, as appropriate. Collaborate across teams and geographies to achieve company-wide goals, identify cross-sell opportunities, and promote knowledge-sharing. Support strategic underwriting planning by developing and maintaining high-quality management information to evaluate portfolio performance and inform decision-making. Ensure compliance with all internal and external underwriting standards, regulatory obligations, and applicable legal requirements in Bermuda and relevant markets. Stay informed of industry trends, regulatory developments, and emerging risks to guide underwriting strategy and maintain Relm’s competitive advantage. Contribute to ad-hoc projects and initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and drive the continuous improvement of Relm’s underwriting function. WHAT YOU WILL BRING Minimum of 12 years of insurance underwriting and/or broking experience, ideally across Financial Lines, Professional Lines, Cyber, Casualty, and/or Property classes. Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, insurance, actuarial science, computer science, or a related discipline; advanced degrees are an asset. Strong and established relationships with wholesale and retail brokers, including Bermuda and international market counterparts. Comprehensive understanding of insurance compliance requirements, regulatory frameworks, and best practices for business engagement. Proven leadership experience at a regional or international level, with a track record of developing and leading high-performing underwriting teams. Extensive experience in negotiating, drafting, and refining policy wordings, endorsements, and underwriting guidelines. Exceptional analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to assess complex risks and design innovative insurance solutions. Excellent organisational and time management abilities, capable of managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment. Creative problem-solver with strong critical thinking skills and a proactive, diligent approach to execution. Skilled communicator—confident and persuasive in both written and verbal communication, able to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; experience with Mac OS and data analysis tools (Excel, Power BI) is an asset. High level of professionalism, attention to detail, and work ethic. Willingness to work flexibly and travel internationally as required. Experience managing and underwriting a predominantly primary book of business. Demonstrated ability to perform data analytics using MS Excel or Power BI, including pivot tables, formulas (VLOOKUP, IF, SUM), and dashboards. Professional designations such as RPLU, CPCU, ACII, or equivalent are strongly preferred. Strong interest and conceptual understanding of emerging sectors such as Web3, Digital Assets, Blockchain, Cannabis, Artificial Intelligence, or Financial Markets will be considered a differentiator.
