    HOW YOU’LL MAKE AN IMPACT

    ----------------------------------------

As a Healthy Schools Research Intern you’ll have the opportunity to learn and contribute to advancing the goals of Center of Green Schools. In this role, you’ll gain hands-on experience supporting projects and initiatives that help our team to deliver meaningful results aligned to our mission and strategic goals.

You’ll work under the guidance of the Project Manager, School District Environmental Health and collaborate with a supportive team where your efforts and ideas will be valued.  You’ll help to draft short publications and communications materials on topics impacting student and staff health in school buildings, including staff training materials.

The work will involve reviewing literature and industry resources to summarize best practices for a school district staff audience. Newly created publications will be public-facing, and authorship recognition will be given. There may be additional opportunities to assist with other publications related to school system environmental sustainability.

The position requires entrepreneurship and active teamwork, and successful candidates will be able to work well both independently and in small teams.

    KEY LEARNING AREAS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    ----------------------------------------

    • Work alongside Center for Green Schools staff to narrow the options for the creation of supplemental resources for school district staff by analyzing market need and currently available resources created by the Center and partners.
    • Review industry guidance, research papers, and school district example policies and communications materials.
    • Work with CFGS staff to evaluate implications for school district staff from key findings.
    • Set up and conduct video conference call interviews as needed with school district staff and Center for Green Schools partners to gather case studies and insights.
    • Assist in drafting and editing sections of the publication.
    • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    ----------------------------------------

    Experience

    • Students who have some experience with K-12 schools and/or school systems and sustainability action and implementation will be particularly well-suited for this position.

    Education

    • Graduate students whose studies and research interests include public health, public policy, environmental science, environmental studies, green building, sustainability, sustainable business, or another relevant field. Relevant coursework in qualitative research methods to implement interviews will be particularly useful.
    • Candidates should be currently enrolled in a graduate program in a college or university.

    Skills

    • Strong writing skills for reports and technical papers
    • Confidence in communicating with various stakeholders via email and phone
    • Excellent organizational and computer skills (MS Office)

    INTERN LOGISTICS

    ----------------------------------------

Location: This position is remote in the U.S. or hybrid if near Washington, D.C. where our HQ is located.

Duration of Internship: January – April 2026 (exact date range flexible)

    Work Schedule: Flexible $20 to $25 hours/week
