Senior Backend Engineer

Business is booming in the non-qualified mortgage (non-QM) market – that’s where every self-employed borrower, real-estate investor, and high-net-worth individual ends up when the cookie-cutter banks say no. Laminr automates the underwriting process for this exploding segment. We’re the only player backed by a consortium of the largest Non-QM investors, and we just closed a subsequent financing round that will allow us to move fast and win. With a track record of explosive QoQ growth and imminent launch of a cutting edge new platform, we are already the emerging standard. We’re a team of 10 (3 engineers + CTO) and we ship like a rocket. You’ll be engineer #4, contributing a seasoned senior engineer’s voice to the team, working directly with the CTO and the team at large in a fully remote, high-trust environment. Let’s Talk About Responsibilities Own large parts of the backend end-to-end: underwriting engines, financial calculations, compliance rules, integrations with lenders/originators, audit trails, etc. Design and ship rock-solid APIs (DRF) that power our web app and third-party integrations Build and tune async workflows (Celery + Redis) that process complex and dynamic loan files in seconds instead of days Keep our financial logic bulletproof – accuracy here literally moves millions of dollars Spot over-engineered ideas early, push back hard, and ship the boring, correct solution that scales Rotate on-call with the rest of the team (including the CTO – no one hides from production) Help us stay ahead of SOC2 while keeping velocity high (lightweight Scrum, idea-to-prod in days) Bring your favorite modern tools and libraries – we have zero attachment to the old way if there’s a better one Let’s Talk About What You Need to Excel Deep Python + Django expertise (DRF, Celery, solid Postgres modeling, testing discipline) You default to simple, readable, maintainable code and get annoyed by unnecessary abstraction Proven ability to keep financial-grade systems accurate, auditable, and secure Real experience shipping backend-heavy features at an A or B-round startup (you’ve lived a highly dynamic environment and loved it) Self-starter who thrives when process is light and expectations are high Fintech experience is a big plus (lending, payments, compliance, ledger integrity – any of it) Bonus: you’ve scaled Kubernetes workloads on GCP, or you secretly love writing migrations that don’t make you cry You care more about shipping the right thing than looking clever on a whiteboard A long list of past employers matters less to us than raw ability, intellectual humility, and a track record of getting shit done in small teams.
