Survey Manager

What You’ll Be Doing As our Survey Manager, you will oversee the delivery of rail monitoring, surveying and engineering projects while supporting the growth of the business. You’ll lead a talented multidisciplinary team and ensure that both operational and commercial targets are met. This role blends team leadership, client engagement and hands-on management of day-to-day operations.

• Lead daily operations across rail surveying, engineering and monitoring teams, ensuring high-quality delivery and strong client satisfaction.
• Allocate resources effectively and oversee project delivery, ensuring compliance with industry and company standards.
• Engage with clients to understand requirements, prepare accurate quotations and maintain strong working relationships.
• Manage departmental financial performance, including P&L, revenue growth and cost control.
• Report key operational and commercial updates to senior leadership.
• Support regional growth by identifying opportunities, contributing to tenders and strengthening existing client accounts.
• Recruit, mentor and develop team members, promoting a collaborative, high-performing culture.
• Oversee core people management processes, including 1–1s, performance reviews and holiday approvals.
• Ensure full compliance with health & safety, quality procedures and regulatory requirements.

Essential Experience managing or supervising survey teams and delivering projects to a high standard. Minimum 6 years’ experience as a surveyor or engineer. Proficiency with a range of surveying equipment. Knowledge & experience of quoting and tendering processes. Excellent communication skills and the ability to manage client expectations. Strong problem-solving, organisational and analytical capabilities. Flexibility to travel regionally/nationally for client or site meetings. Full UK driving licence and right to work in the UK. Desirable Minimum 2 years’ experience in a management role within surveying. Strong understanding of office cost control and commercial performance. Experience producing track monitoring plans or CRT assessments. CRE experience (track or civils). Track Handback Engineer training.
