We are currently seeking a Payroll Specialist to support our Financial Management team in a hybrid of remote and on-site work out of our Columbia, MD corporate office location.Β 

Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities

  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll, including calculating wages, deductions, taxes, and benefits.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations, as well as government contract requirements such as the Service Contract Act (SCA) and Union.
  • Manage time and attendance systems, ensuring accurate tracking of hours worked by employees.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records, including employee information, earnings, deductions, and benefits.
  • Address and resolve payroll-related inquiries and issues from employees and management.
  • Coordinate with HR and accounting departments to ensure consistency and accuracy in payroll processing.
  • Provide training to employees on payroll processes and timekeeping systems.

Minimum Requirements

  • An associates/bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field is preferred. Relevant work experience can sometimes substitute for education.
  • Proficiency in Payroll software (e.g., UKG/UltiPro).
  • Experience with Deltek Costpoint strongly preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in payroll processing.
  • Ability to analyze payroll data and resolve discrepancies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interact effectively.
  • Proficiency with MS Excel and MS Word.
  • Team player.
  • Willing to learn.
  • Able to cope with a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work with all levels of the management team.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Detail oriented.
