Senior Technical Animator

Senior level. 12 month fixed term contract. January start. Fully remote in the UK available. At Wushu Studios, we are looking for a talented Technical Animator who can bring characters and creatures to life in our upcoming AAA titles. Your strong understanding of movement and timing will be essential in creating fluid animations that enhance gameplay and storytelling.

Responsibilities:

• Create high-quality animations for characters, creatures, and environments across various projects.
• Work closely with the Art and Design teams to ensure animations meet the intended vision and align with character personalities.
• Implement animations in the engine and collaborate with the Technical Artists to ensure smooth transitions and functionality.
• Iterate on animations based on feedback from directors and lead artists.
• Maintain the artistic vision and technical standards while optimizing animations for performance.
• Strong understanding of animation principles and how they apply to real-time game engines (e.g., Unity, Unreal Engine, Proprietary etc).
• Professional experience creating gameplay animations for realistic humanoid characters. Stylised is a bonus.
• Proficiency with rigging and skinning characters and creatures using Maya
• Experience with scripting or tool development (e.g., Python, MEL, C#, or Blueprint) to automate workflows and support the animation pipeline.
• Knowledge of game engine integration - setting up animation state machines, blend trees, and solving technical issues between DCC tools and the engine.

Effective collaboration - the ability to work closely with animators, designers, and programmers to ensure smooth and efficient animation systems.

Desirable:

• Understanding of gameplay mechanics and how they influence animation.
• Familiarity with scripting tools or plugins to assist with animation processes.
